Red Hot Talent 2010 - Heat 1

16 April 2010

Following the success of last year’s talent competition Red Funnel once again host Red Hot Talent. Wednesday evening saw heat 1 on the Isle of Wight at the Quay Arts Newport. I received a call just a couple of days before asking me to photograph the event on behalf of Red Funnel. The show went off very well and despite some tricky low lighting it was great fun to shoot. Keep an eye on the Red Hot Talent website as the photos appear.

Trinity House Calendar 2010

03 April 2010

April marks a month to be proud of for me as one of my photographs becomes centre of attention in the Trinity House 2010 Calendar. Last year I entered their lighthouse calendar competition after a successful dawn expedition to Portland Bill. The photograph was taken on December 30th 2008 having been thwarted by the weather in Cornwall and making a last ditched attempt for decent weather nearer home. Being very close to dawn and in incredibly low light patience paid off and some wonderful colours shone through.

I was delighted to hear in early 2009 that my photograph was to be used in the 2010 calendar along with eleven other very strong pieces of work.

Below the Waves in The Maldives

30 March 2010

Last week was very special to us. After our awesome wedding at Careys Manor in Brockenhurst Debbie and I raced off to Gatwick on our way to The Maldives for a relaxing honeymoon. We stayed on the island of Olhuveli in the South Male Atoll. The island hosts its own PADI 5 star dive centre and we found ourselves scuba diving everyday.

To my amazement a few weeks before Tazzie had offered to loan me her underwater camera setup which I’ve been dying to try for years. It was an offer I couldn’t resist. Wow, did I have a great time. Tazzie’s current setup is a Canon 400D SLR in a Hugyfot housing. We kept things relatively simple using a 60mm EF-S macro lens and single Inon Z240 strobe. Many thanks to Tazzie for trusting me with her well loved setup. I can’t wait to dive with a camera again.

"For a "rookie" to underwater photography, your photos have turned out pretty well! But the main thing is we had fun along the way :)", Debbie Reed
