About me
I have been practising photography since the age of ten when my father gave me a
Praktica LTL 35mm SLR. It had a 50mm f2.8 Carl Zeiss prime lens and that was all
I was allowed. My father taught me the essentials of photography since he was a
hugely keen amateur himself. Looking back now how perfect it was. The simplicity
of that camera taught me so much and the fixed focal length lens made me really
work for a photograph.
Years later I inherited his Olympus OM101 which gave me my
first experience of zoom lenses. It had a 35-70mm f4 ‘power zoom’ with which I captured
some great shots. My Praktica briefly relegated soon returned though since the fully
manual photography taught to me by my father was not only more fun but gave some
stunning results.
Many years on after passing through university my love of photography
was reignited when digital photography began to take off. I first invested in a
Canon G1. It was lacking in so many aspects but the advantages of digital over film
were clear and shortly after I bought a Canon 10D which resulted in some amazing
images. I now use the
latest professional level full frame Canon digital SLRs which I hope to continue with for some time
to come.
